Confessions of an Asian Indigo (Part 1) - A little background on Indigoes

So, Madonna confessed on the dance floor. This fully grown (but still maturing) Asian Indigo child shall take this platform so kindly bestowed by Lightworks to do her little own confession; one that I hope, will strike a chord with many of you. Ultimately, my goal is that by way of sharing my experiences here, you will no longer feel so alone anymore and know that there are others like you out there in the world trying to make sense of it.

So, Madonna confessed on the dance floor. This fully grown (but still maturing) Asian Indigo child shall take this platform so kindly bestowed by Lightworks to do her little own confession; one that I hope, will strike a chord with many of you. Ultimately, my goal is that by way of sharing my experiences here, you will no longer feel so alone anymore and know that there are others like you out there in the world trying to make sense of it.

For those who haven’t got the foggiest idea about the whole phenomenon of the indigo child, I shall take the chance to explore the concept here. Back in 1982, Nancy Ann Tappe who is blessed with the gift of clairvoyance reported that there was an increasing number of children coming into this world bearing a large percentage of indigo colour in their auras, hence the coining of the term Indigo child. Through the years, several metaphysicist have postulated that indigo children posses the traits of extra-sensory perception (ESP), an extremely sensitive nature and are sometimes inordinately fiery individuals who possess an inherent inclination to fulfil a certain purpose on earth.

Of course, there is no cookie cutter mould that all Indigoes fit into. The most telling and common denominator would be their extremely strong (and accurate) intuitions and the belief that there is more to life than what the physical third dimension can offer. Indeed, with their strong convictions and never-say-never fortitude, Indigoes are destined to trail blaze a new era of higher consciousness and aid in bringing about the evolution of the human race.

It sounds pretty exciting being an Indigo, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, the path that comes with the job is one plagued with tumultuous ups and downs. Most Indigoes are born feeling that they are different, sometimes not necessarily in a good way. Pre-programmed with the inkling that they need to contribute to the world in one way or the other, not all Indigoes grow up well-adjusted and integrate well into human social structures.

More often than not, Indigoes suffer from “third dimensional amnesia” and remember very little about their special purpose on earth and go through life feeling frustrated at that “memory gap”. The inner knowing but yet not quite able to put their finger on it is a source of consternation to many. This frustration can prove to be an advantage as the Indigo is spurred to delve further inwards to find the answers he or she is searching for. Naturally, it is not at all surprising to learn that Indigoes are masters at self-introspection. They often turn to religion, holistic therapies and metaphysical literature to seek out  personal truths that resonate with them. 

At other times, the Indigo may resort to substance abuse to dull the frustration and pain of being “different”. This inner turmoil can lead to Indigo implosion with deleterious effects on both the individual and those around him or her. Being a vessel of vast potential but not knowing why and how to control or use it can quite literally drive one to delirium. Personally, I feel the need to reach out to such people for all that marvellous potential and energy, when not mis-directed, can do so much good on both personal and societal levels.

As we edge towards the end of the first decade of the 21st century, it appears that more and more Indigoes are awakening to their purpose on earth and slowly but surely taking steps to respond to the clarion call to help anchor more light on the earthly plane. Why go through all that trouble, some may question, to change a world that doesn’t seems like it wants very much to change? Indigoes are special souls (not necessarily human in nature) who have bravely volunteered on this mission prior to incarnation to aid in the evolution of the human race where higher consciousness reigns; qualities such as love, peace and co-operation become the prerogative of one and all instead of the chaos we find ourselves faced with currently.

In certain religions, it is posited that the end times are near. I agree with that notion- but I see it as an end to human consciousness as we know it to be. Strife, competition, fear and coming from a mindset of scarcity thinking will hopefully be a thing of the past. The jury is still out as to when or where that can finally take place. But I know for a fact that even if it doesn’t happen in the present generation, every decision we make to move one tiny step towards the golden age of peace will bring us that much closer to creating heaven on earth. Anything is possible. We need only think it, to achieve it.

What does it mean to be an Indigo in an Asian society? American metaphysicist Dr Doreen Virture (The Care and Feeding of Indigo Children) and Lee Carroll (The Indigo Children) have written extensively on what it is like being an Indigo in a Western society. However, being Asian and Indigo tends to be a little bit different and Krristy Lam will share more on that in Part 2 of Confessions of an Asian Indigo.
